At the present stage, extensive involvement of stakeholders to the protection of nature and
conservation of priority species-rich ecosystems of Caucasus region, especially Azerbaijan, one of the
hotspots of diversity of plants and animals is a major issue. The article deals with the links between
biodiversity and ecosystem services, the theoretical significance of ecosystem services and
biodiversity as a part of an interconnected system, the current situation in this area in the EU
countries, and the first steps in our country in recent years.
