Features of plot construction and composition of the adventure genre

Based on of the plot most of the adventure works are based on the struggle for new territories. The authors describe the opposition of the indigenous population to European invaders, depict the struggle of developed European powers for world domination, and depict the geopolitical conflict of the European and Asian world (L. Jacolliot, J. Gobineau, S. Romer, etc.). Writers convey their personal attitude to these issues and are guided by different principles.
Validity period usually, it is as far away from the present moment as possible: events take place in the distant past or are transferred to the future.
Location of action it may change. The main task of the author is to report on real or fictional events. The main goal is to shake the reader's imagination and surprise them.
Character of the hero it is revealed along with the development of the plot. The hero copes with challenges, gets into difficult situations, meets face to face with enemies.
The main characters of the works of the adventure genre are completely different. They can be divided into several types::

  1. An honest, courageous, unwavering person, devoted to his ideals, capable of decisive action. Usually he wanders around the world, does not look for anything for himself, fights for freedom, restores justice, protects the weak and defenseless (these are the heroes of the works of J. R. R. Tolkien). Verne, R. Stevenson, A. Dumas).

  2. An adventurer who pursues his own profit (can have both positive and negative characteristics).

  3. A gifted scientist (kind, eccentric) who goes on a journey for the sake of science. Often his knowledge is used by bad people for selfish purposes.

Almost always, the hero turns out to be the winner and receives a reward in the final (for example, D'Artagnan from The Three Musketeers by A. Dumas becomes a lieutenant of the Royal Musketeers). Such an image, without a doubt, arouses the reader's sympathy.
The main character is close to ordinary people: he may be poor, unattractive in appearance, physically weak, but all these shortcomings are compensated by his resourcefulness and luck.
Images of negative characters are also developed in detail. Most often, these are the antipodes of the main character: strong, smart and inventive, but they also have evil intentions and insidious plans.
