Watch out:
When one action in the past happens in the middle of another, we use the past simple and the past continuous together.

Used to + bare infinitive

distant past habits and states
Would
Use:

5. Present perfect simple
3 forms with ex.
Use:
Situations and states that started in the past and are still true
A series of actions continuing up to now
Completed actions at a time in the past which is not important or relevant
Completed actions where the important thing is present result
Actions completed recently
Keys:
since, for, it’s the first time, before, already, yet, ever, just, still, recently, up to now, until now, so far.
Watch out:
We don’t use the present perfect simple when we want to say when something happened in the past. We use the past simple.
We don’t use the past simple when we want to show that something happened before now or is still important now. We use the present perfect simple.

6. Present perfect continuous
3 forms with ex.
Use:
Actions and situations continuing up to the present or just before the present
Keys:
For, since, just, all day
Watch out:
The present perfect simple often emphasizes the result of an action.
The present perfect continuous often emphasizes the action, and the time spent on the action, rather than the result.

7. Past perfect simple
3 forms with ex.
Use:
Situations and states before the past
Completed actions before a moment in the past
A series of actions continuing up to a moment in the past
Completed actions where the important thing is the result at a moment in the past
