Pediatrics Developmental medicine

Neonatology (newborn: 0 28 days of life)

Auxology (?)

Pediatric medicine isn’t just treating small adults; children and adults have different physiology. Children are constantly growing and developing. They breathe more rapidly, they require a higher caloric intake, and their bodies are designed to continue to grow into adulthood. Pediatricians and pediatric specialists have to learn all about how the body differs and what diseases kids are most exposed to during childhood.

Common Health Problems and Diseases in Babies

  • Colic. Colic is one of the most common pediatric ailments

  • Cold and Flu. Kids are more vulnerable to colds and the flu than adults

  • Ear Infection

  • Baby Acne

  • Bacterial Conjunctivitis

  • Diaper Rash

  • Tonsillitis

For example : Jaundice :
Jaundice is common in newborn babies because babies have a high number of red blood cells in their blood, which are broken down and replaced frequently. A newborn baby's liver is not fully developed, so it's less effective at processing the bilirubin and removing it from the blood.
Clinical presentation : Yellowing of the skin and the whites of the eyes

Diseases in infancy & childhood (symptoms, clinical manifestations, aetiology) depend on age / developmental stage

The scientific and humanistic approaches may be unified when physical growth and development is taken as a primary measure of community health and of the quality of the environment for human habitation. This use of auxological data and research may be called a type of auxological epidemiology.
Auxology is the basis of a proper growth evaluation. It is through the history, physical exam, and auxology that we are able to properly assess a child's growth
