mager is still n lecturer at Am

Dr, C.ommager did his under
graduate! and graduate work at the
University of Chicago. From 1926
to 1938, he taught at New York
University, arid for the next 20
years, he was a professor of his
tory at Columbia University. He
has held the Pitt Chair of Ameri
can History at Cambridge Univer
sity, and the Harnsworth Chair at
Oxford University.

expected to orient their strat

MORE IMPETUS IN THE 1980S
Over the next five years,
higher birth rates should begin
to have an impact on elemen
tary school enrollments. Later,
the secondary school popula
tion will also rise. So, book
Publishers can', look for a dec
ade of uninterrupted growth in
their basic markets. Production
costs for the years just ahead
should remain more stable!
Overall, receipts of U.S. book
publishers are projected to
grow at an average annual rate
of 3 .2 % in constant dollars
through the decade. Foreign
demand for U. S. books is cur
rently strong and should re
main so 'h rough the 1980s.
With the easlrip. of inflation in
the years ahead, the publishers
should hold their costs and
selling, prices on . a steadier
course, spurring sales of pa
perbacks and trade books,
