Activity 3a Look, listen and repeat. Objective: to revise numbers in tens STEP 1: Ask the pupils to count from 10 to 50 by tens, for example 10, 20, 30 etc.
STEP 2: Allocate the cards with numbers to the pupils and ask them to listen to you. They should run and give you their card if the total is their number, e.g. when you say 10 + 20, a pupil with the number “30” must run up and give you the card with the number “30”. You can also play the DVD to show how to do the activity correctly.
Activity 3b Look and write. Objective: to revise number 12-20 and backwards Ask the pupils to open their Workbooks and look at the tables.
Explain that they must write the missing numbers 12-20 and backwards.
Optional Activity 3c Work in pairs. Point and say. Objective: to revise number 12-20 and backwards Ask the pupils to work in pairs. Explain that the pupils will work with the numbers from Activity 3b. Pupil A points, Pupil B says the number.
Activity 4 Write the letters. Objectives: to learn two more letters of the alphabet – Mm and Nn; to practise writing the letters; to consolidate the letters. Ask the pupils to look at the letter “Mm” and say what pictures are next to the letter (melon, mother and mouse). Play the DVD and ask the pupils to listen and repeat the letter and the corresponding picture. Also draw their attention to the way the letters are written. Then ask the pupils to open their Workbooks and start writing the capital letter “M” and then small “m”. Ask them to look at the example and follow the arrows. If necessary, demonstrate on the blackboard. Then repeat the procedure with the letter “Nn”.
Note: 1. If some pupils are very slow at writing don’t worry. Ask them to continue writing at home. The main point is to learn how to write and how to pronounce the letter.
2. After the pupils have practised writing the letters for some time you can work on the pronunciation of the letters “M” and “N” as follows:
STEP 1: Write the words “melon”, “mother” and “mouse” and the sound [] under or over the letter “m” on the left side of the blackboard. Then say that the letter “M” is always pronounced as [] and it does not give more than one sound. After that have the pupils repeat this sound and the words after you individually, in rows and chorus.
STEP 2: When you finish with Step 1, write the words “nine” and “nose” and the sound [] under or over the letter “n” on the right side of the blackboard. Then say that like “M”, the letter “N” also gives only one sound and is always pronounced as []. After that have the pupils repeat this sound and the words after you individually, in rows and chorus.
Suggestion: Go on making a pronunciation poster as you did during the previous lessons. In this lesson you can make complete posters for the sounds [] and [] of the letters “M” and “N”.
