Manual start-up can occur when the ship does not sink, but it needs immediate assistance: fire, countdown, chemical infection, etc. There are a few simple actions you can take to get started manually. The rules for launching the EPIRB are written on it.
Automatic start of EPIRB
In automatic mode, when the ship sinks, it is released from its anchorage, rises above the water and begins to sound the alarm. The EPIRB is equipped with a special release device - a hydrostat - for automatic release from the place of attachment.
General requirements for EPIRB:
The EPIRB should start automatically after getting out of the water;
EPIRB must be equipped with a rope and an automatic light bulb in the dark at 0.75 kd.
EPIRB is resistant to damage when falling into the water from a height of 20 m.
The isolating device must ensure that it is free from sinking at a depth of 4 m.
The power supply must ensure the operation of the EPIRB for at least 48 hours;
The EPIRB body should have a brief operating instruction and battery life. Portable bilateral VHF radio station (GMDSS)
The portable bilateral VHF radio station is a rescue equipment and is designed to provide radio communication between rescue vehicles and rescue vessels floating at the scene of the distress. According to the requirements of the IMO, passenger ships and ships over 500 must have 3 two-way VHF radios. These radios should be in a location that can be easily picked up and transported to a rescue vehicle during a distress. The alarm table shall indicate the crew member responsible for transporting the radios to the rescue vehicles. Picture 3.

Radio stations must operate on at least three channels - 16, 13 and 6. The power supply must provide 8 hours of transmission and 48 hours of reception at maximum
output. As a power source, a non-rechargeable battery with a shelf life of at least 2 years is used.
Typically, portable VHF radios are equipped with two types of batteries: one is a 5 A / s lithium battery, and the other is a nickel-sodium battery. The first of them is orange and has a service life of 5 years and is used only in times of distress. The other is downloadable, comes with a loader and is designed for everyday use.
