All of the above generate DNA matches, though the specific details become less reliable as we go backward in time. Some of the confusion may result from adoptions and children born out of wedlock to servants and farm workers, adopted by the parent, etc., or by an aunt or family friend. This sort of thing being much more common in farm communities where labor was needed to bring in the harvest and there was less concern with its source than in our time, thus, I would tend to rely on DNA matches over existing records which were often altered to support appearances.
